I often get asked….
“I see you do a lot of romantic, soft brands ..like yours. Do you do other types?”
Such a good question. And I decided to answer in a blog post.
Yes, my own brand is very reflective of many of the brands you’ll see in my portfolio and I did that purposely. I built my own brand around the type of clients I want to attract. My ideal client is a fine art wedding vendor and they usually want soft, romantic palettes and brands. It’s just a very common attribute of my ideal client. When they see my brand they usually have an instant connection to it because of that and I am very often told how much they were drawn to my site because of that.
That being said, sometimes my ideal client doesn’t have the same aesthetic as most of my other clients or sometimes I work with people who aren’t necessarily my ideal client, but fit within my business model and brand.
Having an ideal client is great, but it doesn’t limit you to them. You just have to know yourself if working with someone you wouldn’t necessarily consider an ideal client will benefit you and work out for both of you.
So what’s the answer to the infamous question? Do I do other types of brands? Bold ones? Gold ones? Cozy ones?
OF COURSE!
In fact, I’ve done many, but people tend to breeze past them in my portfolio and only see the bigger picture of the brands that are similar in look and feel. My job as a designer is to understand my client’s needs and wants based on their ideal clients and niches and use that knowledge to build a visual brand. It just so happens that many of my clients have similar ideal clients and niches (which means I’m doing a good job at attracting my own ideal client ;)), but that doesn’t mean I am not capable of designing a glamorous black and gold brand or a more weathered and rustic one. I am, by all means, capable of that and love doing different projects! Here are a few atypical Ribbon & Ink brands:
