I am always so privileged to meet so many great vendor friends via the Rising Tide Society. Jennifer Larsen is no different. She is a wonderful photographer and owner of Jennifer Larsen Photography from New Jersey that I participated in a styled shoot with. I asked Jennifer some questions about how she started her business and why. See what she said!
I studied photography in college, and started doing odd photo jobs during school, but I officially started my business after graduating in 2013.
I started second shooting weddings during college and completely fell in love! I hadn’t imagined myself in the wedding industry until I assisted/third shot my first wedding. I had never experienced anything like it – I was so inspired by the couple’s love for each other, my cheeks hurt from smiling all day, and by the end of the night I felt like part of the family. That really lit the fire in my heart to become a wedding photographer.

It’s so hard to pick just one, so I’m going share a few! 🙂 I truly love establishing genuine relationships with my couples, who so often become dear friends. Being part of their wedding day is so special! I love to connect with my couples’ families, learn about their love stories, and just be immersed in the joy and emotion of their happiest day ever. Mostly I absolutely love capturing images for my couples that preserve the memories of their day and tell their story. Being able to give them photographs that will be cherished by them, their children, and their grandchildren for years to come is something I am so passionate about and feel so honored to do.
So many! I want to shoot more anniversary sessions. I really believe it’s so important to continue to document love stories through all stages life together. I love getting to know fellow creatives, and one of my goals is to continue to cultivate meaningful vendor relationships and expand my circles. Another goal is to travel more…there are so many beautiful places to see and photograph and I would love to explore them more.
Network, network, network! Building relationships has been one of the most important parts of growing my business. Through the Rising Tide Society I’ve met so many creatives to collaborate with, bounce ideas off of, and share experiences. And even more than that, I’ve gained some amazing friendships with others who get what it is to be an entrepreneur. Being a part of a community who will cheer you on and encourage you when you need it most, AND getting to be that for others is really what it’s all about.
Never stop learning! Whether that be attending workshops and going to seminars or watching webinars, joining Facebook groups, and reading blog posts, there are tons of educational resources out there. Make use of them!
Try not to get overwhelmed by big picture plans. Break it down into smaller tangible goals that will get you one step closer to achieving those sometimes daunting and seemingly unreachable big goals.
If you are reading this I want you to know that I will be your biggest cheerleader, helping educate you on how to grow your business. You can do it! I'd love to help you in your journey.
