I love social media for many reasons, but one of the top ones is that I get to connect with SO many new people I never would have met. Lindsay of Chevrons & Champagne became “instagram friends” from following each other. She loved my wedding branding work and I asked if I could send her a few info pamphlets for her couples. She, of course, said yes being the sweetheart that she is. In addition to be a super sweet person, Lindsay is a GREAT businesswoman. She knows her industry in her area well and builds around it. I asked Lindsay a few questions about her business and her is what she said.
How long have you been in business?
I’m still new! My one year official birthday of being in business is in April!
Why did you decide to start your business?
I fell in love with wedding planning while planning my own wedding. I have always loved all things creative and it was missing in my full time career. I slowly added invitation design and floral design to complete my services.
I love working with my couples to create a day that’s perfect for them. I believe creating an event that’s cohesive from start to finish with personal details woven throughout.
What goals do you have for your business?
I want to grow my business and am expanding into full floral design this year. I’ve fallen in love with floral design and I love how much it adds to an event. I’m also launching a blog–Brides and Bubbly–that will be a resource for brides planning their wedding. I can’t wait to share tips, DIY ideas, downloads, and inspiration with brides across the country.
1. Remember the joy you find in your business. If you’re starting a business just because, it’s not going to be successful. It’s hard work and there is so much stress, failure and tears that goes into. When this happens, remember why you started. Remember that passion.
2. Find members in the creative community that you can talk to. Set up video chats, weekly emails, or text back and forth when you’re frustrated or stressed. Find the ones that will support you in and out. They get it. They’ll be there for you and you can be there for them as well!
3. Owning a creative business doesn’t mean you can skip the business side of things. I can’t tell you how thankful I am that I bought a solid contract right away. I also created a system that worked for me, including documents, invoices, and a welcome packet. It’s not always the most fun part of business, but it’s one of the most important. The more you set up ahead of time, the more professional you look and the less you have to do each time you start the process with a client.
