I’ve spent the last year really trying to work on my branding for Instagram. Up until a year ago my Instagram account was full of my work and personal things and it wasn’t very thoughtful.

“It was a random collection of images.”

It wasn’t until I went to one of my Tuesday Together meetings where we specifically discussed using Instagram as a tool for your business that I really decided to sit down and think about my Instagram feed. We talked about having separate business and personal accounts because

“your ideal client wants to see content related to your business and not pictures of your kid or dog.”

I realized that point was spot on. It’s also probably very confusing to a potential client looking at a feed that is mixed with business posts and personal posts. For example, if a potential full branding client of mine saw my feed full of my breakfast, my dog, my kid, some logos, and websites, they most likely wouldn’t be sure what I do.

“You want your Instagram viewers to know EXACTLY what you do just be looking at your images.”

Not only do you want them to know what you do, but you want to display a consistent visual brand presence by using the same color scheme, fonts,  and overall aesthetic. This will help them to remember you.

“Your brand needs to be reflected everywhere you do business: your website, your business card, your Instagram….everywhere.”

HERE ARE THREE TIPS TO BRAND YOUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT:

  1. Separate your business and personal accounts – I cannot stress this enough. I know it seems annoying to have two accounts, but Instagram made it super easy by allowing you to easily switch between accounts without having to log out. It will be worth it to only have your business related images because it will better attract potential clients.

  2. Use your brand’s colors, fonts, and aesthetic – If you haven’t already established your colors, fonts, and aesthetic for your brand than you need to do that before anything else. Once you have done that you need to consistently display those three things on every platform: your website, Facebook, Instagram, etc. This will help people remember you and create brand recognition.

  3. Develop a pattern to posting and create a schedule – This is a big one and why the free printable guide below is awesome! You may have 30 awesome images to post for the month, but you want to make sure you have a variety to your posting so that you aren’t posting 10 quotes at once and then 10 pictures of coffee. You need to mix everything in so it blends as one feed. For this reason I suggest planning out at least 30 images for the month (or do it by the week if it’s easier) and write down when you are going to post what image. There are even several apps that allow you to visualize what your feed will look like before you post.
